Hi, I’m Shanna McSorley.
A coach, facilitator, learner and advocate for all things mental and emotional wellbeing development.
I believe that everyone should be familiar with the tools and resources available to support us through the most difficult of life’s challenges so that beyond them, we are able to move from surviving to thriving.
As someone who spent a long time in survival mode, I aim to arm others with the knowledge, support and space to tap into their own resources that we all have available to us and develop them so that when they begin to move out of survival, they do so with confidence, contentment and clarity.
I’ve been where you are…
I developed my own self-awareness, resilience and healing through many years of working alone. YEARS!
Looking back, it could have been better had I knew of the supports available. Back then, all I knew of was counselling but I didn’t feel this route was for me. I also didn’t know coaching was a an option until I was feeling much better in myself but also was facing new challenges as a new mother.
Listen, there is a world of teachings, tools and tips to regulate your mental and emotional well-being, to foster your personal development, you just have to find the path that resonates and works for you. If that path isn’t something I can offer, I am more than happy to signpost you to a variety of other sources. Above all, I want to make growth and recovery possible for everyone so if that is sharing what others can do for you, I am all here for it.
The turning point in any journey when we say enough is enough. Something has to change.
This for me was when I allowed myself to feel all that was happening inside me.
This looked like late nights, lack of sleep, a lot of tears and many, many questions but the relief on the other side is not something that is easily explained. As with many things in life, this continues to be a work in progress but personally, I believe it is important to learn how to feel, for ourselves and for the next generation. I don’t want my children growing up with the ‘tighten up and get on with it attitude’, I’m sure if you’re reading this, you wouldn’t want this for yours either.
And now I’m here…
Leading others through the same challenging feelings and thoughts using research and science backed methods and tools alongside skills and experience gained through my own personal and professional experiences.
Alongside continuing my own professional development in coaching, psychology and social work, I continue to invest in supervision, alternative modalities and therapeutic practices so that I can offer the best quality and service to clients and groups.
All so that I can experience life with optimism, faith and courage; to change the emotional and societal inheritance my children receive; so that I can engage meaningfully in relationships; and to encourage others to do the same.
“Coaching allowed me a sounding board for stressors, ruminating thoughts, complex dynamics and general debunking of my thoughts. The coaching allowed me an avenue to share what was going on in my life and it felt like i was making headway through the dark forest with a shining light being the coaching. I felt that it was okay to have all these crazy thoughts, i felt from the beginning that i could share with Shanna anything that was going on in my head and this in itself felt like a weight lifted off my shoulders. Obviously this is a testament to your personality and ability to connect with others at a level that allow growth.”
Client Testimonial, 2022
I’ve been coaching since 2019 while also maintaining my social work job and Psychology studies. I’m not an advocate for keeping all the plates spinning but fortunately, these roles are all so closely linked, the knowledge, learning and skills are so transferable so it really feels like I’m just learning and working on things I’m passionate about.
Throughout this time, I’ve been a columnist for Local Women Magazine, been a guest on podcasts and been a guest columnist on blogs of other wonderful coach and educators.
Speaking, sharing and writing truly lights me up and I hope to continue adding to my experiences in the years to come.
A little bit more…
Some other tid-bits…
I really enjoy tapping into creativity as it is something I lost in my childhood/teenage years. Knitting and crafting really bring out my inner child.
I’ve also written a couple of children’s books but never published them. Who knows, maybe I will someday.
My greatest gift in life, is and always will be, my children.
I’ve recently discovered a love for the gym. I also love the post gym coffee and traybake for balance.
I wish the education system was different.
